How You can Get Past Obstacles to Better Fitness

By Larry Guiseler

Many people have a goal of improving their fitness level, but something always seems to get in the way. It can be really easy to find an excuse to not exercise like not having the time or the motivation. Here are some ideas to help get beyond typical obstacles to getting fit. Lack of time is one of the most common excuses people use for not beginning an exercise routine or for not sticking with it.

It can be hard to find time to go to the gym or go for a jog between work and family responsibilities. But, after looking at your schedule, you may find that you don't make the best of your time. There are studies that show the average person in the U.S. watches about five hours of TV every day. Cutting that number in half would give you more time for fitness related activities. Time also gets wasted on computer games, trivial phone calls, and text messaging. You will have more time for exercise if you can cut back on unproductive activities.

Incorporating your workout into your daily life is a good way to find more time for exercise. A simple solution to time management issues is to reorganize how you do things, instead of driving for example you could walk, run or ride a bike to the places you need to visit like work for instance. If you work in an office, you can take a power walk during your lunch hour. Your dog would love the extra exercise you'll get by jogging or fast walking. If you tend to take the elevator up to your office try to take the stairs instead. This way you get the most benefit from your daily routine and a little exercise too. Doing it this way helps you overcome the time hurdle.

People use being tired and having no energy as a reason to not exercise, both of which can indicate poor fitness. People will feel tired all the time when they don't get enough sleep, which is becoming more common. Not only does sleep deprivation make it difficult to feel like exercising, it can make it difficult or even dangerous to maintain physical activity. You can get some help with insomnia by making changes to your diet and routine but if you have serious issues with it, you should let your doctor know. You may find that turning off your TV and computer earlier and avoiding stimulants in the evenings help you fall asleep easier.

All you really need to do is set your mind to it in order to get around any obstacles. You will prevail if you work hard to find the time you need for hit activity like doing workouts using a home exercise bike machine that is going to help with your fitness goals. Sometimes the best thing you can do is reorganize your priorities no matter how hard that maybe it's going to be worth your effort. The above strategies can be used as a guideline to overcoming obstacles to fitness.
