Should You Go After a "Balanced" Fitness Routine?

You've probably seen them before. Those plans that promise you everything under the sun. They'll show exactly how to have broad, overall, and balanced fitness. But is this something you should truly try to do?



Here are a few reasons why a "well-balanced" fitness program is not truly in your best interest.



First, "balanced" is often an euphemism for "spread too thin." When you try and focus on being balanced, it often means you are not focusing on specific areas of sides of your fitness in a way that will reap substantial results. If you focus on your arms one week, then your legs the next followed by your torso after that, and so on... What are the odds that you'll really see significant gains in any of those areas?



Chances are you'll just "feel the burn" for 1 or 2 days and then that'll be it.



It's far better to target one area at a time in order that you can improve your arms and achieve sturdy arm strength first before you move to another part of the body.



Next, even if you do work on completely on each body part in your balanced program, you almost certainly will not have enough time to actually enjoy life. To completely and totally train every part of your body in a carefully balanced fashion you would need to spend hours and hours training each week. Say bye bye to your loved ones or anything looking anything at all like a life of your own. You have to spend the next few months training.



As an alternative isn't it better to devote a little bit of time focusing on one muscle group at a time. Your workout routines can be compressed to half an hour a couple of times per week rather than hours and hours spent at the gym.



I'm sure your family will be grateful for your presence around the house a load more.



And finally there is a widely held notion that you will lose the gains if you focus on one part of the body at a time. This actually isn't true since your muscle systems are actually interconnected in a very elaborate way. Many occasions when you strengthen one part of your body, you will be indirectly strengthening another parts of your body.



In fact it's really easier to maintain your gains after you have them. It's a little like how when you get a ball rolling down a field, it has got some momentum to it. It's simply the same way with the body.



So, don't try and chase after a "balanced" fitness routine. Instead try to find one that focuses on building solid results in a particular area so you can really concentrate on that area and master it, if that be gymnastic rings exercises, parallettes exercises, or anything else for what it's worth. It's better to have a deep understanding of something than a broad understanding.
